Osteopaths treat patients with “musculo-skeletal” conditions. These include common aches and pains due to strains/falls or overuse as well as more long term back pain and joint problems.

Ailments such as headaches, neck pain, shoulder problems and low back pain respond well to osteopathic treatment. But its not “just bones!”, soft tissue injuries such as muscle and ligament strains are commonly treated conditions. Other joints such as elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankle and feet are also treated by osteopaths.

Typically this consists of mobilising or manipulating joints that have become stiff or “locked” and stretching or massaging muscles that are tight or contracted. Sometimes corrective exercises are taught to strengthen weak muscles and to stretch shortened muscles. The aim is to restore balance back to the body so that it can function properly without compensations. Reducing strain by postural re-education and advice may also be instructed.
