What is a Podiatrist?
A Podiatrist is a clinical professional specialising in the treatment and care of the foot and lower limb.
What can a Podiatrist help?
The average person takes 5,000 to 18,000 steps per day (2,500-9,000 per foot). It only takes a small level of stress, repeated thousands of times a day, to either cause or aggravate injury. Therefore, foot health services can provide a vital contribution in maintaining our mobility and improving our quality of life.

The treatments available range from basic foot and nail care (the reduction or removal of corns, callus and nails); to a biomechanical assessment (an assessment of how an individual’s muscular/skeletal system functions) and the treatment of sporting injuries, which can occur through poor biomechanics. Commonly treated conditions include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonopathy, medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints), Ilio-tibial band stress syndrome and knee pain.

Biomechanical problems can be exaggerated through sports activities, due to increases in forces acting upon the body during sports and activities. The misalignment of joints and muscle imbalance can lead to pain in the feet, knees, legs, hips and lower back. The treatment for poor biomechanics could involve the introduction of an exercise plan coupled with the provision of custom made insoles/orthotics for footwear.

An orthotic/insole is a corrective device designed to promote structural integrity and stability to the lower limb, by reducing the effects of abnormal biomechanics.
